I had the pleasure today to work on an Online Seminar with Bestselling author and World Innovation Forum 2011 speaker M.S. Krishnan. Krishhan is Joseph Handleman Professor of Information Systems and Innovation for the Ross School of Business at University of Michigan and co-author of The New Age of Innovation: Driving Cocreated Value Through Global Networks with the late C.K. Prahalad.

Among the many areas covered in today’s online seminar, Krishnan explained how widely available connectivity, digitization, the rise of cloud computing & converging technologies plus social networks and globalization have all come together to give rise to a new world of opportunities for wealth creation.

I found the message and the opportunity to work with Professor Krishnan on this 60 minute online seminar extremely valuable one, and I highly recommend that you view the HSM online seminar if you have not had the opportunity to do so.

Today’s event was recorded for On Demand viewing and is now available for free at:

LinkedIn demographics as of February 2011LinkedIn‘s audience may not get as much attention as Facebook’s current 600MM+ and Twitter’s 175MM+ members.

The site has been on the Internet since May 5th, 2003 – and now boasts more than 100 million members in over 200 countries. To put that number in perspective, that would make LinkedIn the 12th largest country in the world just behind Mexico in terms of total population. (By comparison, Twitter would be the 7th largest and Facebook the 3rd.)

The demographic infographic picture shows a detailed view of the site’s audience.

(Click here or the image on the left for a larger version)

By leveraging this vast business-focused audience with a diversified business model based on multiple revenue streams, LinkedIn yielded its first profit ever in 2010 on $243MM in net revenue.

Amazon KindleAmazon.com has just announced that they are launching a new version of the Kindle eBook Reader device at a lower price point for customers that are willing to view ads along with their eBooks.

The new offering called Kindle with Special Offers presents a new pricing model which allows the company to gain a new revenue stream from advertising, while passing along a portion of those earnings as additional savings for customers willing to view the ads.

The new Kindle with Special Offers will be available at Best Buy and Target, in addition to the Amazon.com site starting on May 3rd but you can already pre-order it on the Amazon.com website at this link.

Initial advertisers include General Motors Buick, Procter and Gamble and Visa Inc.

There is already a fierce battle in the eBook Reader market. With Kindle currently positioned as Amazon.com’s best selling product bringing in $5.42 billion in revenue according to Caris & Co., this new revenue source and the ability it offers Amazon to lower the price of the device, allows it to compete even more aggressively against other top players including Barnes & Noble’s Nook, currently starting at $149 for the WIFI only model and the Kobo eBook Reader starting at $139.

I happen to already own an Amazon Kindle 3G model and I love it.

On a personal note, I don’t see this new lower priced, “Ad enhanced” Kindle as something I’d buy… The last thing I want to interrupt my peaceful reading is dealing with more advertising.

How about you?

Would you be willing to save an extra $25 off the price of your eBook Reader in exchange for “Kindle special offers?”
