In a recent post  on the Twitter Developers Blog by Christopher Golda (formerly of Backtype.com) Twitter announced the introduction of  a new product called Twitter Web Analytics.

In the post, Christopher explains:

“Today we’re announcing Twitter Web Analytics, a tool that helps website owners understand how much traffic they receive from Twitter and the effectiveness of Twitter integrations on their sites.”

Twitter Web Analytics came out of the acquisition of BackType, which was announced in July.

Twitter Web Analytics is currently being rolled out in a small pilot group.

Major roll out to all website owners is expected to take place within the next few weeks as well as the availability of a Twitter Web Analytics API for developers who are interested in incorporating Twitter data in their products.
